Painted Spring's Dazzling Dorothy Painted Spring's Dazzling DorothyHuacayaFemaleWhite, Dark Fawn AOA# DOB: 10/16/20176 yrs We were pretty excited when this little girl came out with spots - just like we ordered.
Don't really have any intention of selling her right now, we'd like to see if she can produce more of herself.
Dottie just gave us a beautiful spotted male out of XXXtreme Spots. She's a great mom just like we expected.
For 2022 we have bred her to our male Swanson. Swanson has some stealth spots and amazing fiber length and fineness. Keeping our fingers crossed for another spotty cria.
Spring 2023 - Our Dottie x Swanson cria has arrived. Just like her brother Brutus, her growth is off the charts. Within 3 weeks she doubled in size - and she started out big at 21#. She is graced wi...

Painted Spring's Swanson Painted Spring's SwansonHuacayaJr. Herdsire (Male)Medium Fawn, Dark Fawn ARI# AOA# 35502203 DOB: 4/11/20195 yrs Well, we were hoping for a pattern out of this pairing, but we aren't complaining about this solid boy with extremely fine fleece.
At shearing this spring (2020) we found some darker fawn spots on both his neck and body leading us to believe that he could indeed throw some spots if bred to the right female. He also had the most incredible shearing length of over 6" with fineness that's beyond compare.
Swanson continues to impress. His fleece at just over 3 yrs is under 24 microns and still one of the longest of any of our animals. He started breeding in the spring of 2022 with amazing efficiency.
His 1st cria is out of one of our spotted dams and she is absolutely regal!

Painted Spring's Hope Painted Spring's HopeHuacayaFemaleWhite AOA# DOB: 9/17/200914 yrs Hope is just that - she was our last hope for a girl the year she was born. Finally after the birth of 6 boys, we finally got one with indoor plumbing! Hope is everything we knew she would be - a breeding with our best girl + our best guy = fantastic!
Hope does have a brown spot on her shoulder so she should be able to produce color when bred to color.
We've worked hard to achieve our white breeding program and it's paying off with crimp and density along with some of the best and the straightest conformation I've seen. Hope is worth a look if you want to breed for quality white animals.
Hope gave birth to her first cria in October 2013. She's the cutest little pip and we just lov...

Painted Spring's HerculesMan of Steel Son - now breeding! Painted Spring's HerculesHuacayaHerdsire (Male)Medium Fawn ARI# DOB: 11/12/20194 yrs We had quite a decision to make when picking a dam to breed to 13x CH and Judge's Choice Man of Steel.
While we didn't get gray, we did get a gorgeous med fawn boy with unbelievable fleece. The pictures don't do it justice, but the shine on this fleece was blinding. I think the taupey color on his nose indicates that the gray is lurking right under the surface.
Hercules is developing into an extremely macho male who has started breeding with much success. He is small in stature, but is probably one of the most confident young males that we have.
June 2023 we welcomed Hercules' first cria. The fleece looks amazing! Can't wait to see how he progresses....

Painted Spring's Sassy ShirlButtery soft fleece Painted Spring's Sassy ShirlHuacayaFemaleBeige AOA# DOB: 5/15/20177 yrs This girl gets her tall beauty from her mother. All the animals that she has produced have had the most exquisite soft buttery fleece and Shirl is no different. Even the fiber that came off her neck on her Juvie shearing was absolutely amazing. I can't wait to work with it!
Shirl has remained a favorite. Her first cria in the fall of 2021 proved to be just as lovely as herself. Our one and only female cria out of our beloved Magic Mike that we lost in 2021. Both girls are absolutely what I am breeding for in fleece.
Shirl's second cria, the last out of our Spotted boy XXXtreme Spots was a solid girl with the crimpiest fleece this year. ...

Rare Gem XXXtreme SpotsAppoloosa! Rare Gem XXXtreme SpotsHuacayaHerdsire (Male)White, Medium Fawn ARI# AOA# 35195405 DOB: 7/1/20149 yrs Our beautiful Spots passed away in March 23 after a lengthy period of paralysis. We have many of his spotted offspring on the farm but his gentle nature will be missed.
In my search for an appaloosa, I came to find that finding one on the East Coast (that wasn't related to the girls I wanted to use him on) was not an easy task. Last fall, I found Spots at Rare Gem Alpacas and his track record for throwing spots was "spot" on.
Spots arrived in Pennsylvania in the Fall of 2019 and we put him to work immediately. He has an easygoing personality, gets the job done quickly and efficiently and the fleece - well, I don't know that I've had one this dense ever. His shearing this year ...

He has an easygoing personality, gets the job done quickly and efficiently and the fleece - well, I don't know that I've had one this dense ever. His shearing this year produced nearly 50% more fiber than anyone else. As you can see from the pictures, the spots are apparent right after shearing but blend in once the fleece grows in.
Of the 6 cria he's had on our farm, 4 out of 6 are well spotted.

For a little bit of his history, his previous owner wrote:
"Spots" is a new comer to the appaloosa alpaca scene. Spots' appaloosa gene comes from NGG Lional-- a known appaloosa carrier that has been well-proven in Canada but is rather rare in the United States. In the past... in the United States... the appy program has been focused on achieving the spots which required certain genetic combinations, but unfortunately... not always best known for outstanding fleece qualities. What is so special about Spots from an appaloosa breeder program perspective is that he carries elite-fleeced heavy hitter lines in his pedigree such as Legacy, El Nino, and XXXtreme (out of Hemingway) ALONG WITH the expressed appy gene! These elite-fleeced alpacas are known for their lasting-fineness and density.
Not only does Spots sport a sweet, easy-to-handle disposition... his fleece is exactly what you would expect from such a stellar pedigree. He is dense and fine and FULL of crimp! Expect lasting fineness from this guy-- his sire, Sai-Hoji, was 21 micron at 11 years old! Spots dam is a beautiful Snowmass XXXtreme daughter.
Spots' first offspring arrived 10/17/18... a beautiful appaloosa male. Looks just like daddy... with even more spots! The dam, Faith, is a vicuna brown non-appaloosa gene carrier... so dad is responsible for the patterning. Way to go Spots!
Skin Biopsy Results by Norm Evans:
Density 69.75 follicles SQ MM, glandular presence 4 of 4, Avg. SP 12.7 to 1. Micron variation 11.3 with an AFD of 20.68.
UPDATE / June 2019: Spot's now has 3 offspring on the ground. Two are classic appaloosa and one is a reverse appaloosa. All are exquisite in their own way and we couldn't be more pleased with this fabulous progeny beginning.

Painted Spring's EdenThrowing dark and gray crias every time! Painted Spring's EdenHuacayaFemaleLight Fawn AOA# DOB: 10/16/201013 yrs Eden was the first light fawn girl born on our farm, a mere 7 years after we started breeding alpacas. One of my favorite colors, she is absolutely beautiful and feminine. Fleece as soft and buttery as possible and out of 2 champions. She has been shown very lightly and placed at the shows she'd attended.
Eden's first cria in the summer of 2014 was a stunning dark brown.
She has been bred to our multi time gray champion Alpine's Carderock. The combination of these 2 fine fleeced animals should be amazing! We are extremely pleased with the results - the Truest of Black female Cria
Eden has proven herself as an excellent producer of dark animals - and nice ones at that. She has b...

Painted Spring's Aphrodite Painted Spring's AphroditeHuacayaFemaleDark Rose Grey AOA# DOB: 9/12/20185 yrs Aphrodite is a beautiful dark brown / bay black alpaca. She is delicately boned like her dam. Her fiber has incredible fineness and length.
At shearing 2021, when I weighed her fleece, I was blown away - over 5.5# in just the blanket and it's fine, has great length and structure. A hidden gem!
Her 1st cria is a dark male with a striking band around his neck. He's a favorite for everyone that comes to the farm.

Painted Spring's HayleyBest bundles EVER! Painted Spring's HayleyHuacayaFemaleMedium Fawn AOA# DOB: 5/22/20159 yrs Hayley was up and running within minutes of birth. She's been strong, straight and proud ever since. She is the first cria out of our Black Warrior and she has guaranteed his frequent use in the future. She quite possibly has the nicest fleece we've ever seen on the farm. She is a definite show prospect for us in 2016.
Oct 18 Update: Hayley just gave birth to a lovely dark brown boy out of Carderock. This first time mom is really rockin it. Unassisted birth and great mothering skills. That's all you can hope for!
2021: Hayley gave birth to a minimally spotted boy out of XXXtreme Spots. His fleece is dense like his dad's.

Painted Spring's KlondikeNow Breeding! Painted Spring's KlondikeHuacayaHerdsire (Male)White, Bay Black ARI# AOA# 35458623 DOB: 5/12/20195 yrs Klondike is exactly what we'd hoped for when we bred Pia to his carbon copy dad Glacier. This boy is one of the strongest, fastest growing animals we've had on the farm.
Klondike at a year is progressing nicely. His dark fiber is as close to true black as it could be. The dark fiber is as fine or finer than his white and it is dense and crimpy.
Klondike started breeding in the spring of 2022 with great efficiency. Get a really reasonable breeding on a super-flashy boy before he has cria hitting the ground for the best price.
While we don't want to let go of his genetics (at least til we have some offspring on the farm), we would consider a co-ownership.
His 1st cria surel...

Smoke on the WaterHarlequin bloodlines Smoke on the WaterHuacayaJr. Herdsire (Male)Bay Black ARI# AOA# 35541615 DOB: 9/21/20194 yrs We were trying for a harlequin when we bred our Black Warrior (Black Epic line) to a friend's harlequin female. While he didn't come out a harlequin, he is a smoky bay black which leads me to believe that he will gray out like his mother was. We also think there is a good chance he could pass on his mother's harlequin genes. We can't wait to try.
His cria fleece was nearly 5" long so it was hard to tell how much structure he will have in his next fleece, but what was next to the skin was pretty impressive. This is one really lovely boy!
Spring of 2023 - he bred his first female so we are looking forward to next spring to see what he can produce for us....

XXXtreme Xclipse Kalliope XXXtreme Xclipse KalliopeHuacayaFemale (bred)Beige, Medium Fawn AOA# DOB: 5/28/20212 yrs I saw Kalliope at a show the spring of 2022 when we were in a class together for Appaloosas. I really liked this sweet delicate little girl and ended up bringing her home. I will breed her in 2023 to one of my Appy herdsires to see what she can produce. Her patterning is more of a large fawn spot on her back, so she might be capable of producing very interesting patterns....

Painted Spring's Spotacular Painted Spring's SpotacularHuacayaJr. Herdsire (Male)Beige, Medium Fawn ARI# DOB: 11/2/20203 yrs Our 3rd cria from XXXtreme Spots did not disappoint. His main fleece is beige with med fawn spots scattered over his body. The concentration is on his neck and legs with some dotted across his blanket. But the face, the face on this one gets me every time. I won't be disappointed if this one stays on the farm. He is not related to too many girls so he will have good opportunity to pass on his sweet disposition and incredibly buttery, fine fleece....

LAM Corleone's Sophia LAM Corleone's SophiaHuacayaFemale (bred)Dark Rose Grey AOA# DOB: 6/11/20167 yrs We got Sophia from our friends as they were moving and selling all their alpacas. She was a brown girl, but I could tell that with time, she was going to gray out to a true modern rose gray.
I liked her enough to breed her to the infamous Man of Steel from Cloverleaf Alpacas.
10/12/19 - Sophia delivered a beautiful taupey fawn male cria out of Man of Steel.
In 2021 - Sophia delivered a healthy Bay Black boy out of our Sambucca.

TK (Tickles Kingston) TK (Tickles Kingston)HuacayaHerdsire (Male)Medium Silver Grey ARI# AOA# 35042945 DOB: 8/7/20176 yrs I saw TK at MAPACA in 2019 right before he won the Reserve Championship at the Jubilee. After losing one of my Herdsires in a dog attack just weeks before, TK seemed to be the perfect replacement. After he won - well, it was a no brainer!
His sire FTAF's Blackbeard was chosen as the 2019 Futurity Herdsire for the Small Farm Division. He's produced so many champions.
What I loved about TK was uniformity of color in his fleece - he's virtually spotless. His staple length was long with nice character. I got him home and was hoping that he'd be ready to breed by the fall and he was. We have several girls bred to him for fall Cria and a few more were bred this spring as well.
